Nicholas Tse was borned in August 29, 1980. He was raised in Vancouver, Canada. He attended St. George's School and was expelled. He later attended Hong Kong International School. He maintains a dual Canadian and Hong Kong citizenship. He also has a younger sister named Jennifer Tse. Throughout his career, he has been a singer, an actor, a director, a producer, and a composer. He is also often referred to as Nic, or 霆 鋒. His most well-known song is "Jade Butterfly" (玉蝴蝶), which he has performed in every major concert to date.

Nic has produced a number of albums, known for their simple guitar riffs. He has also starred in several other acclaimed films, such as Time and Tide and Metade Fumaca and recently in films The Promise and Dragon Tiger Gate, both claimed to be breakthroughs in Chinese film history. He enjoys great success in Hong Kong, and also rumoured to have a range of girlfriends singers/actress Cecilia Cheung, Faye Wong, and Bondy Chiu.

Beginning his career with Mr Yeung (a friend of Patrick Tse), he slowly climbed the ladder of stardom, although tough at first he made his name through a numerous range of Cantonese songs, including: 非走不可(Have to leave) 改造人 (Remade Man). These songs are also widely sang in many other singer's concerts including Hacken Lee (Lee Hak Kan 李克勤) and Eason Chan (Chan Yik Sun 陳奕迅) which definitely shows the popularity of his songs at that time, and even in present tense. The one thing special about Nicholas Tse in Hong Kong celebrity life, was his revolutionary act. To begin with he is so far the youngest male singer to have held a full concert in the Hong Kong Coliseum, as well as being the first 'young singer' as in that time period which he first stepped into the spotlight many singers were usually in their 30s or even above, in other words he was like an 'experiment' as without him becoming the first success of young idols (青春偶像) managers like Paco Wong will not have released Cookies (a group of nine girls) or Mani Fok in releasing Twins (Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung). He was a singer that believed, singers should be passionate about music and made very provoking comments in television shows, and also has a habit of expressing his emotions on stage by smashing his guitar giving him the name "Bad Boy of Cantopop" and "Pete Townshend of Hong Kong". He starred in a series called the Handsome Siblings, which he played Fa Wu Que(Hoa Vo Khuyet).

At the height of his career, he crashed his Ferrari F360 Modena in Hong Kong Central District in early morning on March 23, 2002. Initially it was claimed that his driver was responsible for the crash, but further investigation by the ICAC revealed that the story was fabricated, involving three other men and a police officer. Tse was sentenced to 240 hours of community service for obstruction of justice, and officer Lau Chi-Wai was sentenced to six months in prison. Although some viewed this charge as lenient, the 240 hours was the maximum punishment for this offense, given that Tse was also a young offender at the time (21 years and 7 months.) Nonetheless, some claimed that this sentence would send out the wrong message to Hong Kong youths, although it could be equally argued that handing out a harsher sentence because he was a celebrity is just as inappropriate as handing out a lighter one. This incident had caused him to have a downfall of popularity.

He later had another accident in November, where he crashed his Audi in Lantau. He was banned from driving for six months and fined HK$4000 for reckless driving. Prior to this, he was fined HK$7000 and had his license suspended for a year for two separate charges of speeding.

Afterwards, Nic spent several months to "discover himself", then releasing the album Reborn.

He is now working in mainland China most of his time filming movies, series and so on. He has stated that he will be taking a break from singing and focusing on his acting for a year.

On July 31, 2006, Nicholas officially admitted dating Cecilia Cheung in an interview with Hong Kong commercial radio station 881/903. In September 2006, Nicholas showed off his wedding ring at the Hong Kong International Airport, announcing he and Cheung were married in a secret wedding ceremony in the Philippines.

On the January 8, 2007 episode of TVB's Entertainment Scoop (東張西望), Cecilia was publicly confirmed by Nicholas' father, Patrick Tse that she is approximately 3 months pregnant with the couple's first child.

Nicholas' Mother, Deborah has confirmed that she is expecting a male grandchild in August.
